1ST SPANISH CONGRESS ON READING IN THE FAMILY

1ST SPANISH CONGRESS ON READING IN THE FAMILY

Organised by the Andalusian Regional Ministry of Education and held in the historic city of Granada, the 1st Spanish Congress on Reading in the Family marked the first official gathering in Spain of grandparents, parents, children and other relatives actively involved in projects encouraging reading in the family.
With the aim of promoting reading in the family as an important factor in the development of children’s reading and academic potential, parallel congress events were organised for adults and children.
For adults, round-table discussions and debates were held on topics including reading in primary and secondary schools, the educational use of videogames, new approaches to literacy, family reading clubs, children’s and young adult literature, school libraries and on-line family reading programs.
At the same time, children were organised by age into small groups and, led by trained supervisors, participated in diverse and enjoyable reading-centred activities and workshops.
